File Extension 3G2
File extension 3G2 is a video file associated with both 3GPP2 and 3GPP applications, which are the new standards used in the creation, playback and delivery of multimedia data through third generation, high speed, high quality wireless networks. These standards provide uniformly delivered rich multimedia content for mobile networks in the newly evolved broadband network as well as to the latest multimedia-enabled wireless devices.

In cooperation, 3GPP2 and 3GPP standards are based on the MPEG-4 standard generated from Apple QuickTime. Apple 6.5 includes support of key components that are related to 3GPP2 and 3GPP specifications. QuickTime playback as well as the software used to deliver it enables the user to receive live or pre-recorded video and audio. The video and audio format for files, which bear the file extension 3G2 format, is designed for the transmission of multimedia files over the internet.

The updated version of the 3GP format is used on different cell phones to save video files. The 3G2 format is specifically modified for networks that are mainly CDMA-based and use the MPEG-4 or H.263 algorithms for the compression of video and AMR or AAC formats for audio-stream compression.

Most modern phones encompass support for at least the playback of 3G2 files while numerous others have support for their recording. There also exists numerous programs that are capable of playing a file extension 3G2 on a PC and this includes QuickTime and MPlayer among others. Defined by the Partnership Project of the Third Generation to be used on mobile phones of 3G; the format multimedia container uses the file with format 3G2 to achieve this. This is a container format for the version of MPEG-4 version designed and simplified store requirements and reduce bandwidth to ensure that a variety of mobile phones are accommodated.

To open files with this format, users should have at least one of these operating systems installed Mac OS, Windows or Linux. Additionally, they should have a media player installed so as to be able to open this file format. Moreover, if one lacks the appropriate application that is able to open the format, they can convert this file format into a commonly used format using a media converter. If one is unable to open a file bearing this format on Windows, it can be attributed to a registry error or the use of an inappropriate association program to open the file.
